Jonah, on the verge of drowning, needed a miracle or else he would die. God sent him exactly that. A giant fish would be both his protection and chastening from the Lord. It was enough to shake Jonah out of his sleep and reveal God's goodness. Jonah's prayer from the belly of a sea creature, revealed a heart that knew all about God but only just began to really know God.
